A
New Beginning -
Spyros Vassiliou’s very large and many-sided output has found
a living place that will provide points of reference for the
researcher, the art-lover, the student of art and the young.
The new museum provides a space for viewing the Greek
environment, natural and constructed, as seen through the eyes
of an artist who loved and was deeply involved in the world
around him: the city, the countryside and the sea, as well as
the people and the things which inhabited them and gave them
life.
The
Atelier Spyros Vassiliou will attempt to maintain the artist’s
engaged outlook in the variety of its activities. The artist’s
family, art professionals and friends of Spyros Vassiliou will
work closely together to create a hospitable, stimulating,
educational and open space to exhibit and sustain the artist’s
milieu and its heritage.
The Atelier also seeks and supports the work of young artists,
promote new ideas and illuminate the personality and
life-style of Spyros Vassiliou and his wife and constant
companion, Kiki, whose dream to create this museum has become
a reality.

“Full stop and paragraph” are the words Father used for ending
the book “Lights & Shadows”. The time has come for us to begin
the next paragraph by creating the “Atelier Spyros Vassiliou”
in our paternal home under the Acropolis and at his
“mantrotoihos” gallery in Eretria, in the hope that his work
will become known to younger and future generations. Although
he himself had never expressed the wish that his home would
become a museum -it was more of our Mother’s dream- we feel
obliged to preserve his legacy at his two ateliers with
numerous events.
“I built houses, gardens, had children and grandchildren…” so
he used to often say, so we continue…
